Gray Gaulding's motorsports team said Friday that the NASCAR Xfinity driver was dealing with a "suspected allergic reaction" when their plane en route to Kansas Speedway made an unscheduled stop in St. Louis for medical care.
A spokesman for Stewart-Haas Racing acknowledged that one of its aircraft made the St. Louis stop, and the team said that after Gaulding arrived in Kansas City, Kan., later Friday, he was told to skip practice that day.
"He will be re-evaluated Saturday morning. J.J. Yeley will practice the car for final Xfinity practice," according to the statement from the team that was posted on social media.
Gaulding finished the Xfinity series in 13th place, one spot out of the series' postseason, with 624 points. He recorded one top-five finish, taking second at Talladega in April, and four total top-10 finishes.
