Buford’s Ashyia Willis (10) jumps to make a pass over GAC’s Nia Wilson (2) at Buford City Arena.

The annual Blue Collar Basketball Buford Showcase returns to Buford City Arena on Saturday with five high school games, each featuring a Gwinnett team.

The event kicks off with a girls game between unbeaten Buford and Johns Creek, led by former Parkview coach Kirk Call. Four boys games follow the opener.

Shiloh, off to a 6-0 start this season, takes on Holy Innocents’ in the 2:30 p.m. game. Holy Innocents’ new head coach is Cabral Huff, who just finished a successful tenure as the head boys coach at Duluth.

Berkmar’s boys have an intriguing game at 4 p.m. against Madison East, a team from Wisconsin. Parkview and Johns Creek clash in the 5:30 p.m. game before the 7 p.m. finale between Buford and Eagle’s Landing Christian.

Buford’s boys are the reigning state champions in Class AAAAA, while ELCA was state runner-up in Class A Private last season.

This year’s showcase is more heavy on Gwinnett teams — only four local squads were involved in 2018 — and has a completely revamped field. Only the two Buford teams were part of last year’s showcase.
