VALDOSTA — Collins Hill advanced 13 wrestlers to next week’s state wrestling tournament at Saturday’s Class AAAAAAA Sectional B meet at Lowndes.
The Eagles were paced by first-place finishes from Lucas DeSilva (160) and Tomari Fox (285) and runner-up finishes from Joey Felix (120) and Clint Gilbert (126).
Mountain View’s Garrett Spikes took the title at 170 pounds, while teammates Mason Askew (113), Drew Risley (132) and Chase Standridge (145) finished second. Brookwood’s David Key (182) and North Gwinnett’s Rex McDaniel (145) also were winners in their weight classes.
Eight Gwinnett girls wrestlers had first-place finishes at the Lowndes sectional.
The local champions were North Gwinnett’s Dianna Holmes (106 pounds), Mountain View’s Kennedy Shropshire (116), Duluth’s Aki Choates (126), Norcross’ Genesis Ruiz (146), Collins Hill’s Tiyahna Askew (156), Berkmar’s Itzel Vega (166), Parkview’s Stephanie Felix (176) and Peachtree Ridge’s Lauren-Ashley Miller (225).
Local runner-up finishes in the girls bracket were Berkmar’s Ally Graham (106), Discovery’s Violeta Rios (146), Central Gwinnett’s Ayitagraha Louifils (136), Parkview’s Rebecca Juarez (156) and Meadowcreek’s Mi’Kel Jiles (225).
Archer advances five
CUMMING — Archer’s Wade Hipp (106) and Cameron Sapp (120) finished in second place at the Class AAAAAAA Sectional A at South Forsyth on Saturday. Also qualifying were Vernon Rogers (113), Nathan Pratt (145) and Amier Krigger (126).
South sends four to state, including two champs
CUMMING — South Gwinnett's wrestling team advanced four wrestlers from Class AAAAAAA Sectional A at South Forsyth.
Leading the way was 182-pounder Bruce Ferguson, who won the sectional title. Teammate Rebecca Buchannan was the girls sectional champ at 225.
Buford advances 14
LOGANVILLE — Buford advanced all 14 wrestlers to the state meet from Saturday’s Class AAAAA Sectional A at Loganville High School. Nicke Corday (106), Ashton Logan (132), Nick Cambria (120), Talon Thompson (132), Nick Stonecheck (138), Charlie Darracotte (152), Blaine Bergey (160), Caden Williams (195) and Evan Dimaggio (220) took first place.
Dylan Bozoian (126) and Todd Hill (145) had runner-up finishes.
Runner-ups pace GAC
NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian hosted the Class AAA Sectional A on Saturday. Na’im Moss (113) and Tyler Garrett (138) each placed second for the Spartans.
Dearth, Bivins lead Wesleyan
OCILLA — Harrison Dearth (145) and Tanner Bivins (285) won first place at the Class A Sectional A at Irwin County High School on Saturday. Sam Schmitt (152) and David Conley (170) took runner-up honors at the meet.
GAC 58, North Hall 57
GAINESVILLE — Greater Atlanta Christian’s Kennedi Williams made a free throw with two seconds left to give the Spartans a 58-57 win over North Hall in the Region 7-AAA championship game on Saturday. The contest was back and forth all night until Williams scored the last of her 17 points. Kaleigh Addie added 13 as GAC improved to 16-11 on the season.

Creekside Christian 18
DULUTH — Notre Dame Academy downed Creekside Christian 31-18 in the third-place game of the Region 1-AAA tournament on Friday. Josey Fleck led the Irish Wolfhounds with eight, while Louisa Smolynsky added seven. Notre Dame Academy (16-9) advances to the GISA state tournament.
Dacula 63, Lanier 54
WINDER — Dacula led wire to wire and defeated Lanier 63-54 in the third-place game of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament on Saturday at Winder-Barrow High School.
Brenden Tucker’s 25 points led the Falcons (12-15). Mekhail Bethea added 15 while C.J. Carithers provided 12 points in the win.
Notre Dame Academy 62,
Dominion Christian 60
DULUTH — Notre Dame Academy defeated Dominion Christian 62-60 in the third-place game of the Region 1-AAA GISA tournament on Friday. The Irish Wolfhounds exacted some revenge as they had previously lost two games to Dominion after leading.
Mike Miller scored 17 and Kendall Braxton contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Notre Dame Academy (10-16). Ty Brown added 13, Makhai Mitchell contributed 10 points, while Cooper Curtin scored seven points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Condra sets record
LILBURN — Peachtree Ridge’s Chase Condra won the 5,000 meters at the Parkview Invitational track meet on Saturday. His time of 15:20 established a Peachtree Ridge record and broke the Parkview stadium record.
