Peachtree Ridge Lions (6-AAAAAAA)
Coach: Reggie Stancil
Record: 1-5, 0-2 region
Last week: Lost to Mill Creek 49-17
Collins Hill Eagles (6-AAAAAAA)
Coach: Lenny Gregory
Record: 3-2, 1-0 region
Last week: Beat Duluth 60-12
This matchup, between two teams that waged a 7-0 defensive battle last season, is important early in region play. For Peachtree Ridge, it would renew postseason hopes by beating a playoff contender. For Collins Hill, it would continue a playoff push that began with a rout of Duluth last week.
The Eagles scored 60 in that win behind a completely new offense than the one Peachtree Ridge slowed down a year ago. Collins Hill’s more wide-open attack put up big numbers a week ago thanks in large part to Travis Hunter, who caught six passes for 150 yards and four touchdowns. Jalen Johnson did his usual work — three rushes for 75 yards and a touchdown along with two catches for 46 yards — and quarterback Sam Horn was 12 of 16 passing for 265 and five TDs. Horn also ran for a score. Jaylen George led the Collins Hill defense with four sacks.
The road gets tougher this week against a Peachtree Ridge defense that has hung tough against top opponents this season. Mill Creek scored two fourth-quarter TDs last week to make the final score look more lopsided.
The Lions were led defensively by Amari Banks, who had six tackles and an interception, and Cortlin Tatum, who had seven stops. Corey Collins added an interception.
The offense also showed positive signs in building a 10-0 first-quarter lead against Mill Creek. Brandon Cade had 180 yards of offense and a couple of touchdowns behind a solid day from the line, which was led by Alex Carman, Amari McNeill and Matthew Adoghe.
