The Mountain View Bears Gold, a 13-and-under baseball team of Twin Rivers Middle students, won the Cal Ripken Summer Slam championship last month in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Mountain View Bears Gold, a 13-and-under baseball team of Twin Rivers Middle students, won the Cal Ripken Summer Slam championship last month in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Bears routed the South Tampa Knights 16-0 in the championship game behind three hits and three RBIs each from Tyler Greene and Cooper Johnson. Jake Pepper had two hits, and Luke Winter had a double and four RBIs. Johnson was the winning pitcher, striking out three and allowing only two hits. He was named championship game MVP.

Mountain View, led by head coach Garry Gwaltney and assistant Tyler White, went 7-2 in the tourney.

Members of the championship team are Owen Beam, Jesse Crews, Caleb Farr, Greene, Maddox Hansen, Johnson, Pepper, Jabari Spencer, Joel Taylor, Coleton Thomas, Jaden Wilson and Luke Winter.
