POWDER SPRINGS — A pair of top-five finishers in the 3,200-meter run Friday night gave the Mill Creek boys track and field team a boost into first place in Class AAAAAAA at the Georgia High School Association state championship meet at McEachern.

Jake Peters was runner-up in the 3,200 with a school-record time of 9 minutes, 11.63 seconds, and the Hawks’ Luke Kalarickal followed up in fifth place at 9:24.73. Peters’ time is the eighth-fastest in Gwinnett history.
