He came to games and practices and led his teammates first on crutches, then limping with his brace on, and now as he is regaining his strength and speed. He leads as well as he plays and will never be outworked. I can’t wait to see his first game back and watch him enjoy playing the game again. He plays a ‘power’ game and he will be bigger and stronger than ever, and his playing ability added to his leadership will be a tremendous boost for us this season.”

• Coach Simon Mawson’s take: “Luke is a phenomenal athlete and teammate. He is everything that you would want in an athlete. Even though Luke is a great lacrosse player, what really shines through to me is his leadership ability. From the moment he stepped onto our field he took ownership of the leadership of the team, players immediately look up to him and follow him. From when he first arrived on our team he has been asked to do a lot, both on-field and off. He has accepted and embraced all of these challenges. We have placed him in uncomfortable positions on the field and off and he has excelled in all these roles. He is a defenseman, but when we had holes open up on offense he stepped into that role as well and led our team in points, while also making those around him better. We had leadership opportunities open up and Luke stepped right up to the challenge. He is always the first voice heard in the huddle, and the first to admit to his teammates when he is wrong.”

• Nickname: Tay Lew

• Field or box? Field

• Coach Kevin Peek’s take: “Taylor Lewis is a four-year starter in goal. He was all-state last year and has signed to play Division I lacrosse at Jacksonville University. Taylor has owned the cage since his freshman year. I have not seen a high school goalie come in with the poise and command of the game he had three years ago and he has only gotten better with time. He is another coach on the field and knows exactly where every defender is and where they should be. He has the ability to change the defense during a possession based on what he sees like a quarterback does in football. His lacrosse IQ is off the charts and he is a tremendous ball stopper in the cage. His clearing ability and stick skills top any that I have seen in a high school goalie and he is great with younger players.”
