Central Gwinnett makes just enough plays in 28-24 win at South Gwinnett

Offensive Player of the Year: Matthew Hill, Brookwood, Sr.

Technically listed as a receiver, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior did a little bit of everything for the Broncos this season, catching 52 passes for 879 yards and seven touchdown, ran for 695 yards and four TDs on 76 carries, returning 21 punts for 349 yards and a TD and eight kickoffs for 262 yards and a score, good for 2,185 all-purpose yards. The Auburn commit even contributed 13 tackles and two sacks on defense

Defensive Player of the Year: Jayden McDonald, North Gwinnett, Sr.

The 6-1, 213-pound senior was a one-man wrecking crew at times this season, recording 93 total tackles, including 12 tackles for loss, and 12 1/2 sacks, to go along with four interceptions, three caused fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three quarterback hurries. The Rutgers commit save his best for the Bulldogs’ run towards the program’s first state championship, with big games in a second-round playoff win over Grayson and the Class AAAAAAA state title game against Colquitt County

Coach of the Year: Jason Carrera, Meadowcreek

In his third season as Meadowcreek’s head coach, Carrera led the Mustangs, who had won just five games in 13 seasons prior to his arrival, to a historic season with a 7-5 record, tying the school single-season record for wins, and including the program’s first winning season since 1990 and first postseason appearance since 1989
