ROME — Malik Thompson of Parkview and Kendall McDaniel of Grayson closed the Class AAAAAAA field events with second-place finishes in jumps Friday at Berry College.

Thompson cleared 46 feet, 6 inches for runner-up honors in the triple jump, and Grayson’s Zach Hawkins was close behind in fifth at 45-9 1/4. Peachtree Ridge’s Rico Hannah was sixth at 45-5 1/2.

McDaniel was runner-up in the girls high jump at 5-6, in addition to her eighth-place finish in the long jump. North Gwinnett’s Sierra Harrison (seventh, 5-4) and Peachtree Ridge’s Cheyenne Scott (eighth, 5-2) also scored in the high jump.

In the boys long jump, Gwinnett placers were North Gwinnett’s Trisstan Weddington (fifth, 22-3 1/2), Brookwood’s Ajay Shanmugam (seventh, 21-11) and Mill Creek’s Parker Wroble (eighth, 21-8 1/2).
