The Daily Post’s Boys and Girls Golfers of the Year, Buford’s Jackson Buchanan and Mill Creek’s Tess Davenport, head up Gwinnett County’s contingent on the Georgia Coaches Association’s All-State Golf Team, which was released Friday.
Buchanan, a sophomore, was low medalist at the Area 3-AAAAA tournament, and shot 5-under 67 during the final round of the Class AAAAA state tournament to finish sixth in the individually and helped the Wolves to sixth place in the team standings, and was named to the first team in AAAAA.
Meanwhile, Davenport, a senior who is headed to play college golf at Vanderbilt, was among the selections in Class AAAAAA after shooting rounds of 73 and 77 at the AAAAAAA state tournament, which led the Hawks to a state runner–up finish in the team standings. She also placed third in the Area 4-AAAAAAA tournament.
Joining Davenport on Class AAAAAAA’s first-team all-state teams were Peachtree Ridge’s Yedem Lee and North Gwinnett’s Alice Acosta, while Lee’s Peachtree Ridge teammate Bridget Hoang and Acosta’s North teammate Lauren Maher were named honorable mention.
Lanier’s Sarah Hsu was a first-team selection in Class AAAAAA, while Buford’s Kamryn Roberts and Wesleyan’s Jada Richardson earned the same first-team honors in Class AAAAA and A (Private) respectively.
Among Gwinnett’s boys, Brookwood’s Anmol Jhangra was a first-team selection in Class AAAAAAA, while Wesleyan’s Will Stakel was chose for the first-team in Class A (Private) and Lanier’s Jackson Cross earned honorable mention in Class AAAAAA.
