WHITESBURG — Archer senior Myles Collins broke the 15-minute mark Saturday with a runner-up finish in the Coach Wood Invitational at McIntosh Nature Preserve.
Collins’ time of 14:59.58 was just off the 14:58.91 posted by first-place finisher Sully Shelton of Harrison.
Brookwood led Gwinnett boys in the team standings with a seventh-place finish at 220 points. Archer (285) was 10th, Mill Creek (306) was 11th, Norcross (312) was 12th and Parkview (330) was 13th.
Grayson’s Chris Cherono also had a top finish, placing 12th in 15:22.28. Parkview’s Tristan Autry (21st, 15:46.04) and Archer’s Sebastian Rodriguez (27th, 15:54.60) also finished in the top 30. They were followed by Wesleyan’s Mac Howie (31st, 15:57.33), Brookwood’s Will Bray (32nd, 15:57.48), Norcross’ Miguel Schlicht (34th, 15:59.00) and Archer’s Steven McCartney (37th, 15:59.77).
Hebron Christian’s Brooke Browning and Archer’s Sarah McCartney led Gwinnett girls runners at the meet. Both posted a time of 18:31.70 with Browning in 10th and McCartney in 11th.
Brookwood’s Reese Saddler was 20th (18:52.20), helping the Broncos to ninth place in the team standings with 278 points. Mill Creek’s girls were 10th (313), followed by Parkview (11th, 316) and North Gwinnett (14th, 386).
Other Gwinnett girls in the top 40 were Parkview’s Abi Debebe (35th, 19:18.90), Mill Creek’s Isabelle Hahn (37th, 19:21.30) and Norcross’ Merritt Blum (40th, 19:28.50).
