BUFORD WOLVES (7-AAA)
Coach: Jess Simpson
Record: 3-1, 1-0, region
Last week: Beat Banks Co. 63-0
The Wolves have recovered quite well from an early-season setback to Gainesville by pounding their next two opponents by a combined score of 106-0.
Offensively, they’ve shown plenty of balance, with Dontravious Wilson and Zavior Hoxie each leading the running game with over 200 yards on the season, while the quarterback tandem of Taylor Mitchell and Montgomery VanGorder have kept the passing game solid.
Defensively, the Wolves have been particularly effective at forcing opponents into turnovers with an average of 2.5 miscues per game, led by two interceptions from Thomas Wilson and two fumble recoveries by Steven Reese, while Korie Rogers is the leading tackler from a unit that has allowed just 22 points in four games.
The task Friday will be to slow down a Spartans offense led by running back Isaiah Rowe, who averages about 4.4 yards per carry, quarterback Zach English and receiver Chase Jarrard.
