GEORGE WALTON BULLDOGS (8-A)
Coach: Don Williams
Record: 4-1, 1-0 region
Last week: Beat Commerce 26-14
HEBRON LIONS (8-A)
Coach: Sal Battaglia
Record: 1-3, 0-1 region
Last week: Lost to Pinecrest Academy 35-0
A young Hebron team continues to try to keep its goals simple as it welcomes George Walton Academy to town Friday night.
Aside from a 60-point outburst in a win over Cross Keys three weeks ago, the Lions have yet to get on the scoreboard, and the culprit has not been moving the ball, but rather finishing drives.
“Some of that comes from youth,” Hebron coach Sal Battaglia said. “It’s hard for kids as young as we have to focus that long. So, we’re just trying to get them focused on finishing (drives). We’ve done a good job of moving up and down the field.”
The continued development of the running game behind sophomore Hunter Johnson should help the offense’s production by taking the pressure off freshman quarterback Connor Holliday and a young offensive line.
But the Lions will have their hands full Friday against a Bulldogs team that just moved into the Associated Press’ top 10 after knocking off powerhouse Commerce last week.
Last meeting: George Walton won 45-13 last year
Directions to Hebron Christian Academy: From Ga. Highway 316, go north on Ga. Highway 8 approximately one mile and turn left at the traffic light onto Dacula Road (after passing Dacula High School on the left). Stadium is about a mile ahead on the right.
