The Washington Nationals will begin the National League Championship Series without reliever Daniel Hudson, who was placed on the paternity list prior to Friday's Game 1 against the host St. Louis Cardinals.

Fellow right-hander Wander Suero will occupy the available roster spot in place of Hudson, whose wife gave birth to the couple's third daughter on Friday morning.

Per Major League Baseball's rules for the paternity list, Hudson is allowed to be away from the team for a minimum of one day and a maximum of three. Upon his return, he will replace Suero on the NLCS roster.

Hudson, 32, posted a 3-0 record with six saves, a 1.44 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 24 appearances with Washington. He also made 45 appearances with Toronto earlier in the season, sporting a 6-3 mark with two saves, a 3.00 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.

Suero, 28, owned a 6-9 record with one save and a 4.54 ERA in 78 appearances with the Nationals this season.
