The Seattle Mariners acquired infielder/outfielder Jake Bauers from the Cleveland Indians on Thursday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.

In a corresponding move, the Mariners designated infielder Jack Mayfield for assignment.

Bauers will be active and in uniform Thursday afternoon as Seattle closes out a three-game series in Detroit. The Mariners and Tigers split the first two game.

The 25-year-old Bauers appeared in 43 games with Cleveland this season. He hit .190 (19-for-100) with two home runs and six RBIs before being designated for assignment by Cleveland last week.

In 256 career games with the Tampa Bay Rays (2018) and Indians (2019, 2021), he has a career average of .211 with 25 homers, 97 RBIs and 111 walks. He spent the 2020 season at Cleveland's alternate training site.

Mayfield, 30, appeared in 11 games for the Mariners after being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on May 19. The Mariners claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on April 27.

In 60 career games over three seasons with the Houston Astros (2019-20), Angels and Mariners, he has a .168 average with two home runs and 11 RBIs.
