Defending champion Andrey Rublev stormed back from a set down to defeat Canadian Denis Shapovalov 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the St. Petersburg Open final on Saturday.

The Russian will face Borna Coric of Croatia, a 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 winner over another Canadian, Milos Raonic, in the semifinal on Sunday..

Rublev, the No. 3 seed, held off the second-seeded Shapovalov, in part by saving five of six break points.

"The match was unreal, in my opinion," said Rublev, who is headed to his fourth final of 2020. "The level was high from both sides. Both of us deserved to win. Shapovalov was leading and he had break point in the second set, so everything could (have) been in two sets for him... One or two points decided the match and today it was for me."

With 33 match victories on the year, Rublev has won titles in Doha, Adelaide and Hamburg.

Marco Cecchinato stormed into the finals with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over lucky loser Danilo Petrovic of Serbia at Santa Margherita di Pula, Sardinia.

The Italian wild card needed just 56 minutes to top Petrovic, capitalizing on five of his 11 break opportunities. Petrovic didn't have any break-point chances.

Cecchinato will face Serbia's Laslo Djere in the final. Djere defeated another Italian, Lorenzo Musetti, after Musetti retired with Djere up 4-1 in the third set. A right elbow injury forced Musetti to retire.
