LAWRENCEVILLE — Buford’s wrestling team had seven individuals win their respective weight classes en route to the team championship of the Archer Invitational last Saturday.
Nick Cambria, Logan Ashton, Blaine Bergey, Charlie Darracott, Cooper Roberts, Tristan Bozoian and Billy Barber all won weight-class titles, while John Downing placed second and Kyle McCullough was third in his weight class as the Wolves, fresh off their Class AAAAA title at the state duals a week earlier, won the title over runner-up South Paulding, third-place and host Archer and fourth-place North Hall.
Brookwood takes North Metro title
SNELLVILLE — Behind four weight-class champions and three other placers, Brookwood took home the team championship of the 41st annual North Metro Wrestling Tournament that they hosted last Saturday at Brookwood.
Alex Martin won the individual title at 113 pounds, while Joel Winters won at 138, Matthew Key at 195 and Justin Oldknow at 220 as the Broncos rolled up 173 team points, good enough to outpoint runner-up Forsyth Central (136) and third-place Heritage-Catoosa (119.5) for the team title. Lowndes (111.5) and North Gwinnett (110) rounded out the top five of the team standings.
In addition to the individual champions, Brookwood also got a strong performance from Chase Hornsby, who was runner-up at 152 pounds, as well as Vaughn Williams and Andrew Funston, who placed third at 120 and 132 pounds respectively.
Mountain View takes title at JV King of the Hill
SUWANEE — Mountain View had three individual weight class champions to win the team title at the King of the Hill junior varsity tournament last weekend at Collins Hill High School.
Among those individual champions was Kennedy Shropshire, a female wrestler who won her weight class.
The Bears also got weight-class titles from Mason Askew and Garrett Jackson to roll up 211 points, good enough to roll past runner-up Jefferson (177) and third-place Buford (169) for their second-straight team title.
The Wolves’ third-place finish was buoyed by a weight class title from Evan Dimaggio.
Host Collins Hill finished 12th in the team standings, followed by Archer in 13th and North Gwinnett in 14th.
