BOGART — The Wesleyan football team stormed back to win 24-14 Friday night in a non-region game against host Prince Avenue Christian.

The Wolves (3-0), down 14-0 at halftime before their rally, were led by sophomore quarterback J.C. French, who went 12-for-18 passing for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Leading rusher sophomore Griffin Caldwell also had a solid night, carrying the ball 20 times for 102 yards.

Senior Micah Smith led the team in receiving with four receptions for 93 yards, including a 75-yard TD catch.

Wesleyan failed to run the ball in the first half, resulting in early offensive struggles.

"You've got to give a lot of credit to Prince Avenue's defense," Wesleyan head coach Franklin Pridgen said. "We also could not get out of our way in the first half. Our execution wasn't very good. This is the first significant adversity that we've faced this season so far."

The Wolverines (2-1) started the game with a 10-play, 79-yard TD drive, moving through the Wolves' defense effortlessly. A Brock Vandagriff 26-yard TD pass to Jack Johnston gave Prince Avenue an early lead in the first quarter at 7-0.

Right before halftime, another Vandagriff 32-yard TD pass to Johnston with 35 seconds left gave the Wolverines a two-score lead that held into halftime.

It was all about the Wolves in the second half as the game was completely flipped upside down. They scored 24 unanswered points, capitalizing on three massive turnovers.

"What's exciting is we were able to capitalize on all of our turnovers and get points," Pridgen said.

Wesleyan came right out of the gates and scored in six plays on a 61-yard TD drive to make the game 14-7 and set the tone for the remainder of the contest.

Then the madness started as the turnovers came raining in. A fumble recovery and two interceptions that led to points helped secure a Wolves lead late in the fourth quarter.

Wesleyan's final score of the game was a 41-yard field goal from senior Javy Martinez. This was a crucial moment as it gave the Wolves a two-possession lead with 5:43 to go.

A Wesleyan fumble with 3:37 to go almost gave hope to Prince Avenue, which marched down to the 1-yard line, but the Wolves made a goal line stand to secure the game.

"We're off next week," Pridgen said. "Our goal this week is to stay healthy and start region play. Were 0-0 in region and these last three wins don't mean anything. But I'll tell you what, in our locker room there's going to be some really happy kids and they love being Wesleyan Wolves."
