Wesleyan outfielder Jahni Kerr scores a run during a Wolves’ game.

High school softball’s 2019 season is still more than a month and a half away, but one Gwinnett County player is already garnering national attention.

Wesleyan’s Jahni Kerr, the Daily Post’s 2018 Player of the Year, was named to USA Today’s first-team preseason All-American Team, which was released by the publication earlier this week.

The rising senior centerfielder, who is already committed to play college softball at Florida State, hit .596 with seven home runs, 23 RBIs, 10 doubles, seven triples, a 1.749 OPS, 48 runs scored and 35 stolen bases in helping the Wolves to their second straight Class A (Private) state championship last season. She also was strong in the field with 17 putouts and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Kerr is one of three Georgians to be honored by USA Today, joining East Coweta’s Kelley Lynch on the first team and third-teamer Riley Blampied of Crisp County.
