SUWANEE — North Gwinnett’s volleyball team won a five-set thriller with Hebron Christian on Thursday, handing the Lions just their third loss of the season.

The Bulldogs (15-5) posted a 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-9 victory in the home match.

North’s top performers included Joya Screen with 19 kills (.333 hitting percentage), six aces and four digs, Abby Taylor with 42 assists, 10 digs, five kills and one ace and Izzy Durnell with 15 kills (.481 hitting percentage), 19 digs, four blocks, two digs and two aces.

The Bulldogs also got 11 kills and two blocks from Laura Thomas and 20 digs, five assists, a 2.27 passing average and one ace from Lindsay Kahren.

“It was an amazing match,” North coach Kristina Stinson said. “I’m very proud of this team pushing and fighting until the very end.”

Hebron (27-3) was led by Malia Fisher (17 kills, three blocks), Carly Heidger (14 kills, four blocks), Emma Tennant (six kills), Morgan Smith (21 assists), Angelia Bonner (18 assists), Cherokee Terry (11 digs) and Elizabeth Ann Farmer (11 digs).

VOLLEYBALL

Dacula wins three

DACULA — Dacula swept through three visiting opponents Thursday night.

The Falcons (18-11) defeated Loganville Christian 25-13, 25-14, Archer 25-6, 25-21 and Mountain View 25-23, 25-14.

Abby Askue (11 aces, 12 digs), Anna Beth Stokes (three aces, 20 kills, three blocks, 28 assists), Claire Smith (three aces, 24 assists) and Arissa Shepherd (nine aces, 18 kills, 20 digs) led the way for Dacula.

Norcross downs Hillgrove

KENNESAW — Norcross swept Hillgrove 25-21, 25-23, 25-16 on Thursday.

The Blue Devils (10-7) got 12 kills and 10 assists from Bella Murray and Claire Catterton had 10 kills in the attack. Isabella Casagrande (13 assists, 14 digs), Alaina Giordano (eight digs) and DeNaeja Morton (five kills) also made big contributions in the win.

Berkmar splits

LILBURN — Berkmar split its volleyball matches Thursday night.

The Patriots lost 25-15, 25-17 to Meadowcreek despite three kills from Victoria Lawyer and two kills from Jessica Ogbodo.

They rebounded for a 25-17, 19-25, 15-13 victory over Central Gwinnett. In that match, Berkmar was led by Lawyer (one kill), Ariel Enniss (one ace), Ogbodo (one kill), Lesly Zetino (one ace), Karyme Fernandez (two aces) and Jazlyn Reyes (one ace).

GAC, Wesleyan split

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Wesleyan, but lost to Lovett in Thursday matches. Wesleyan defeated Lovett as each team went 1-1 on the night.

The Wolves’ victory over Lovett came by a score of 25-20, 25-19. GAC topped Wesleyan 25-21, 25-21.

Wesleyan was led by Avery Daum (13 kills), Grace Carroll (10 kills), Amber Mathis (six kills), Lauren Van Wie (25 digs) and Riley Bryan (33 assists).

Providence goes 1-1

LOGANVILLE — Providence Christian split two matches with Trinity Prep on Thursday. The teams played twice because of a COVID-19 cancellation of an earlier match.

The Storm won 22-25, 25-22, 15-8 in the first match, but lost 25-23, 25-23 in the second.

Makayla Gillespie (12 kills) and Ryan Jeremiah (11 kills) led Providence (14-14). Taylor Lewis had five aces and 14 digs.
