Mountain View gave Lanier, one of Gwinnett’s most successful teams in recent seasons, a tight game last week before falling by a touchdown. It was the Bears’ second straight loss after losing 33-16 to Parkview in Game 2. They defeated Shiloh in the season opener, Poitevint’s debut as head coach.

“I'm really proud of our players and how they responded this week at practice after a tough loss last week,” Poitevint said. “Our team is working hard to improve every week and that is all we can ask them to do. We look forward to another opportunity to compete against a great team this Friday night.”

The Bears’ standouts last week included Jordan Eccleston (15 tackles, one for loss, one pass breakup) on defense and Zay Wilson (two catches for 37 yards, TD, high blocking grade) on offense. Derrick Smith made a big special teams impact with two blocked punts.

They will need a complete game against Jefferson, which routed Central Gwinnett 61-7 in the opener and defeated a talented Rabun County team last Friday.

“Jefferson is playing really good football right now,” Poitevint said. “They are talented and well-coached. Offensively, they run the triple option and it presents challenges, especially when you do not see that style of play very often. Defensively, they play extremely hard and make you earn everything.”

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
