MOUNT AIRY — Mackenzie Pickens took her home run spree on the road Tuesday night.

The freshman blasted three home runs and had a school-record nine RBIs in the Buford softball team’s 14-1, five-inning victory at Habersham Central in Region 8-AAAAAA. She now has five homers in the past two games.

Pickens’ had a solo home run in the first inning, a grand slam in the second inning and a three-run home run in the fifth inning that pushed the Wolves (17-2, 9-0) past the 10-run mercy rule mark. She finished the day 4-for-4.

Abbi Perkins hit two solo home runs, going back-to-back with Pickens in the first and second innings. Taylor Malvin was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs.

Olivia Duncan (6-1) pitched all five innings for the win. She struck out four, walked none and allowed four hits.


Brookwood 6, Parkview 0

SNELLVILLE — Grace Young pitched Brookwood to a 6-0 win over rival Parkview on Tuesday.

Young struck out eight in seven innings.

Brookwood was led offensively by Thalia Martin (2-for-3, two RBIs), Anna Dover (1-for-3, RBI), Elle Bass (1-for-4, RBI) and Jaryn Gibson (2-for-3).

Mountain View 8, Collins Hill 0

SUWANEE — Sarah Currie pitched a no-hitter and added a solo home run in Mountain View’s 8-0 win at Collins Hill on Tuesday. She struck out eight and walked two.

Ahmari Braden led the Bears’ offense with a three-run home run and added a fourth RBI on a sacrifice. Kellie Ervin (single, double, two runs, two RBIs), Brooke Finley (two hits, two runs) and Chloe Shrope (two hits, two runs) also contributed for Mountain View (17-3, 6-0).

Norcross tops Duluth

NORCROSS — Norcross posted a region victory over Duluth on Tuesday.

Bella Krauth pitched a five-inning, two-hitter to earn the victory.

The Blue Devils were led offensively by Lea Smith (2-for-3, two RBIs, triple), Faith Lawrence (2-for-3, two RBIs) and Serenity Starr (3-for-3, two RBIs).

Archer 15, Discovery 0

LAWRENCEVILLE — Archer defeated Discovery 15-0 in three innings Tuesday.

Mallory Tullis struck out four and allowed one hit in three innings to earn the win.

The Tigers’ top hitters were Olivia Craig (1-for-2, four RBIs), Mallory Clark (2-for-3, two RBIs) and Kylie Rhymer (1-for-2, three RBIs).

Discovery fell to 2-6.

Lanier 14, Shiloh 6

SUGAR HILL — Lauren Cothern’s big game propelled Lanier to a 14-6 win over Shiloh in 8-AAAAAA.

Cothern went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and six RBIs, in addition to being the winning pitcher. She pitched six innings, and Carly Forrester pitched one scoreless, hitless inning. Forrester also was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs.

The Longhorns’ Sara Byrum was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Sandy Creek 2, GAC 0

TYRONE — Sydney Deardorff struck out 10 batters in a complete game Tuesday, but Greater Atlanta Christian fell 2-0 at Sandy Creek.

Wesleyan 16, Providence 0

LILBURN — Wesleyan rolled to a 16-0 victory at Providence Christian on Tuesday.

Ryley Kutter struck out eight and was the winning pitcher, in addition to going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Lily Nydam also had a scoreless relief outing.

The Wolves also got big offensive games from Gracie Taylor (3-for-3, double, triple, RBI), Reece Holbrook (3-for-4, double, three RBIs), Riley Keller (3-for-3, double, four RBIs), Christina McCoy (2-for-2, RBI) and Marjee Williams (two RBIs, triple).

They were backed up by Lindsey Suits (RBI, single), Imani Washington (two RBIs, single) and Anna-Sophia Pinson (three runs).
