SUWANEE — Peachtree Ridge’s Madison Strange’s hit brought home Jaylah Jarrell with the winning run as the Lions walked-off with a 6-5 win over visiting Mill Creek in the Region 6-AAAAAAA opener for both schools on Thursday.

Elle Lunsford was the winning pitcher for the Lions (5-2, 1-0). Ava Lunsford had a hit and two runs while Riley Hudson added a home run and drove in two runs in the victory.

Dallis Goodnight led the Hawks (2-3, 0-1) with three hits and a stolen base. Olivia Shaw drove in two runs and Helena Nagy also had two hits including a two-run home run.

SOFTBALL

Brookwood 2, Archer 0

LAWRENCEVILLE — Brookwood blanked Archer 2-0 on Thursday behind a complete game effort by Danielle Taitt in the circle. Taitt allowed only three hits and helped her own cause with an RBI. Olivia Rogozinski recorded a pair of hits while Thalia Martin notched a pair of hits, scored a run and drove in a run for the Boncos (3-1).

Mountain View 6, Collins Hill 0

LAWRENCEVILLE — Mountain View blanked Collins Hill 6-0 in the Region 6-AAAAAAA opener for both schools on Thursday. Sarah Currie tossed a complete game three hitter and struck out 10 to earn the win in the circle for the Bears (5-2, 1-0). Kellie Ervin had two hits, Ahmari Braden notched two hits and drove in a run while Lexie Simonton had a double and drove in a run in the victory.

Madison Stell went four inning and struck out four for Collins Hill (1-2, 0-1). Peyton Fointno, Makenzie Chappell and Emily Whitehead all had hits for the Eagles.

North wins a pair

SUWANEE — North Gwinnett defeated North Forsyth 9-6 and opened Region 6-AAAAAAA play with a 13-0 win over Duluth on Thursday. seven players recorded hits for the Bulldogs as Amber Reed recorded the win, in relief for the Bulldogs.

In the region opener, Jaylen Benson and Ella Janish combined to no-hit the Wildcats. Morgan Frye blasted a two-run home run and Page Nellis added two hits and two RBIs. Hayley Cummings and Marisa Miller each provided two hits for North (6-0, 1-0).

Dacula 4, Habersham Central 1

MT. AIRY — Dacula defeated Habersham Central 4-1 on Thursday as Jin Sileo connected on a two-run home run. Erin Watt and Riley Ballew each had two hits to make a winner out of Sydney Boulware in the circle for the Falcons (5-1, 2-0).

Buford 6, South Forsyth 2

DAHLONEGA — Buford downed South Forsyth 6-2 in the Hawk/Bulldogs tournament game played Thursday at the University of North Georgia. Ansleigh Hollifield set a career high with 10 strikeouts in notching the win in the circle for the Wolves (4-2). Hollifield also helped her own cause with two hits and an RBI. Kara Taylor, Adi English and Anabel Adams each added a hit and drove in a run for the Wolves.

Greater Atlanta Christian 12, Fannin County 4

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian downed Fannin County 12-4 on Thursday. Faith Vento picked up the win in the circle for the Spartans (3-3, 2-1). Tatum Lowe had three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Caroline Marschalk also had three hits in the win.

Wesleyan 11, Strong Rock 5

PEACHTREE CORNERS — Wesleyan’s Madison Kerpics recorded her career 500th strikeout as the Wolves defeated Strong Rock 11-5 on Thursday. Kerpics went five innings and did not allow an earned run while striking out 11. She has established a new career record for strikeout for the Wolves. In addition, she helped her own cause with three hits and two RBIs. Jahni Kerr added two hits and scored twice, Reece Holbrook had a triple and drove in three while Tinsley Bertram drove in a pair of runs for Wesleyan 4-0, 2-0).

VOLLEYBALL

Hebron Christian nearly upsets Walton

DACULA — Defending state AAAAAAA champion Walton was seeking its 100th straight win in Georgia on Thursday. Class A power Hebron Christian gave them all they could handle and had two match points but ultimately fell to the guests 25-13, 14-25, 25-21, 23-25 and 16-14. Hayden McGee had 20 kills, Abbi Luke dished out 49 assists while Rebecca Olariu and Malia Fischer added 12 and 10 kills, respectively for the Lions (2-1).

Central Gwinnett downs Berkmar

LILBURN — Central Gwinnett defeated Berkmar 26-24, 25-23 14-25 and 25-20 on closely fought match on Thursday. Lorena Jackson and Jada Jackson had seven and four aces, respectively, for the Patriots (0-3).

Mill Creek sweeps

LILBURN — Mill Creek (8-2) defeated Loganville 25-9, 25-7, host Parkview 25-22, 25-12 and Greater Atlanta Christian 25-20 and 25-17 on Thursday. Adriana Ackerman led the Hawks with seven aces, 14 kills and 54 assists. Mar’ria Phillips contributed 16 kills and four blocks, Aiyana Bermudez had nine aces and 18 kills while Nadia Carter and Ainsley Larence each recorded five blocks.

Parkview wins one

LILBURN — Parkview defeated Loganville 25-19 and 25-15 but fell to Greater Atlanta Christian 25-14, 15-25, 11-15 and Mill Creek 22-25 and 12-25 on Thursday. Meg Youngblood led the Panthers with 16 digs while Jordan Godgree added 11 kills. Mia Mattson, Margaret Schirm and Tai Ragland recorded nine, eight and seven kills, respectively for the Panthers (5-4).

Brookwood splits

SUWANEE — Brookwood defeated Denmark 25-19, 25-18 but fell to Lambert 16-25 and 23-25 on Thursday. Sophia Koop led the Broncos with 14 kills and 18 digs. Ellie Rey recorded 16 digs and Abbey Tucker notched 42 assists. Cydney Gardner and Amber Williams added 18 and 13 kills, respectively for Brookwood (4-4).

Buford wins a pair

DUNWOODY — Buford defeated Dunwoody 25-13, 18-25 and 15-10 and West Forsyth 25-14 and 25-11 on Thursday. Against Dunwoody, Mikayla Hayden led with nine kills while Ashley Sturzoiu and Kiana Pold each contributed eight kills. Macy Upshaw recorded 19 digs. In the finale against West Forsyth, Polk led the Wolves with seven kills.

Archer sweeps

LAWRENCEVILLE — Archer defeated Collins Hill 28-26, 25-21 and Discovery 25-21 and 25-12 on Thursday in its home opener. Kyla Ffrench led the Tigers with five blocks and eight kills.

Peachtree Ridge sweeps

SUWANEE — Peachtree Ridge defeated Dacula 25-17, 25-13 and Providence Christian 25-18 and 25-9 on Thursday. Zoriah Thomas led the Lions (5-1) with kills on the night.

Greater Atlanta Christian wins a pair

LILBURN – Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Parkview 15-25, 25-15, 15-11 and Loganville 25-23 and 25-14 before falling to Mill Creek 20-25 and 17-25 on Thursday. The Spartans are now 6-3 on the season.

Providence Christian splits

SUWANEE – Providence Christian defeated Dacula 18-25, 25-23 and 15-13 but fell to host Peachtree Ridge 18-25 and 9-25 on Thursday. Alaina Emminger had 13 kills while Julia White provided four aces for the Storm (1-1).
