Buford’s volleyball team won the Region 8-AAAAA Tournament on Thursday.

WALNUT GROVE — Buford captured the Region 8-AAAAA Volleyball Tournament on Thursday with a 25-17, 25-7 and 25-14 win over Loganville.

Mikayla Hayden had 10 kills and was named player of the year in the region. Macy Upshaw tallied 28 digs and Grace Adams dished out 33 assists in the victory. Upshaw, Adams and Ashley Sturzoiu were named to the all-region team.


Hebron Christian advances to final

LILBURN — Hebron Christian won both of its matches at the Area 7-AA/A Tournament on Thursday.

The Lions defeated George Walton 25-18, 25-5 and host Providence Christian 25-8, 25-7. Hebron advances to Saturday’s area championship to face Wesleyan.

Hayden McGee led the Lions (39-7) with 14 kills while Rebeca Olariu added 13 kills. Macy Maynard contributed seven aces while Katie Marrero added seven blocks.

Wesleyan fights back

LILBURN — Wesleyan dropped its opening match of the Area 7-AA/A Tournament on Thursday.

After falling to host Providence Christian in three sets, the Wolves defeated George Walton and then avenged its loss by defeating Providence 25-17, 21-25, 16-14. In the third set, Wesleyan trailed 11-4 before rallying for the win.

On the night, Grace Carroll led the Wolves with 18 kills while Alden Pridgen tallied 16 kills. Riley Bryan dished out 60 assists and served up nine aces while Meredith Mangum recorded 55 digs.

Providence places third

LILBURN — Providence Christian placed third at the Area 7-AA/A Tournament on Thursday. The Storm (28-19) opened with a 25-16, 19-25, 15-11 win over Wesleyan. Providence fell to Hebron Christian and in a subsequent match with Wesleyan to place third.

Alaina Emminger led the Storm with 38 kills and 19 digs. Lauren Yost provided seven aces and 39 assists while Alex Gonzalez recorded 42 digs.

GAC takes third

ATLANTA — Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Lovett 25-11, 25-16, 25-12 to take third place at the Area 4-AAA tournament on Thursday. Ali Schreiber led the Spartans (24-13) with 16 kills. Lexy Taylor had 10 digs while Melissa Jones recorded three aces.
