The coaches of these two unbeaten teams know each other well since Small was South Gwinnett’s head coach from 2005-2016. Small’s team is off to a good start, edging Starr’s Mill 21-20 in the opener and rolling past New Manchester last Friday.

Norcross had a bye after winning 30-21 at Hillgrove 30-21 in the season opener.

The Blue Devils’ 2020 debut saw a nice performance from wide receiver Trey Goodman, who had four catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Kaleb Jackson had 10 carries for 55 yards, while Tripp Miller (80 percent grade, three pancake blocks) paced the offensive front.

Norcross linebackers Zakye Barker and Jalen Garner picked up where they left off in 2019 with their efforts against Hillgrove. Barker had 14 tackles (10 solos, three for losses), a sack and two pass breakups, and Garner had 12 tackles (10 solos, three for losses) and three quarterback hurries. They were backed up by Jamal Janvier (six tackles, four solos, five pass breakups) and Jared Brooks (four tackles, three solos, two for losses, 1/2 sack).
