Mountain View already has doubled its one-win total from last season, and has shown the ability to win close games, squeaking past Shiloh 14-13 in the opener and holding off Lanier 28-20 last Friday. The Bears hope this week’s matchup with Jefferson, last year’s Class AAAA state runner-up, is much closer than the teams’ meeting last season, won 40-7 by the Dragons.

Jefferson is unbeaten and loaded for another title push with a talented roster highlighted by Georgia commitment Malaki Starks. The Dragons won a season-opening showdown with Rabun County (22-13), and followed with consecutive routs of Central Gwinnett (42-7) and Southside (45-7).

Mountain View closed well in last week’s win over Lanier, turning a 14-7 deficit late in the third quarter into an eventual win. Mason Kidd and the passing game has flourished for the Bears this season — the quarterback has thrown for 743 yards and seven touchdowns through three games. His top targets have been Justin Wilson (13-247-1 TD), Sean Reese (12-214-4) and Terell Battle (13-149-1).

The Mountain View defense’s top performers have included Armond Jones (40 tackles, 12 for losses, two sacks) and Jaquan Ivy (33 tackles, 4 1/2 for losses).

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Last meeting: Jefferson won 40-7 last year

Location: Mountain View High School
