Three former athletes were inducted recently into the Meadowcreek Mustangs Hall of Fame in conjunction with the high school’s homecoming festivities.
Wrestler Alex Paucar and football players David Hendrix and Cornell Thomas were the 2019 inductees.
Paucar was the first athlete in Meadowcreek history to win an individual state championship in 1989. He won the 103-pound title as a freshman that season, then repeated his feat as a senior with the 125-pound state championship. He was third at state as a sophomore and runner-up as a junior. He also was a three-time county and area champion.
Hendrix, an all-county football player and state champion hurdler in track and field, played college football at Georgia Tech and in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers from 1995-97. In 1990, he won state track titles in both hurdles events.
Thomas helped Meadowcreek’s football team to winning seasons his final two years, then played college football at West Georgia. He was Meadowcreek’s first NFL player with the Chargers, helping San Diego to the 1994 AFC title. He played pro football through 1997, when he was with the Scottish Claymores of the World League of American Football.
