The Lanier girls placed second at Saturday’s Region 8-AAAAAA Cross Country Championships.

WINDER — The girls teams from Lanier and Dacula qualified for the state meet with top finishes at Saturday’s Region 8-AAAAAA Cross Country Championships.

Lanier was second with 45 points and Dacula was third with 65. Gainesville won the meet with 36 points.

Lanier runners took seventh through 11th — Katie Kress (seventh, 21 minutes, 51.15 seconds), Makayla Bowman (eighth, 22:10.04), Annette Rodriguez (ninth, 22:10.65), Emily Chamberlin (10th, 22:10.67) and Alyssa Willis (11th, 22:13.90).

Dacula’s Karsyn Rodney was the top local finisher in third place with a time of 19:43.86. The Falcons also placed four other runners in the top 20 — Stephanie Beltran (12th, 22:18.37), Samantha Carrera (14th, 23:00.82), Sarah Makarevic (16th, 23:17.29) and Natalia Vidal (20th, 23:52.88).
