Record: 1-4, 0-1 region

Last week: Lost to Norcross 52-19

Two teams in major need of a turnaround square off at Tally Johnson Field on Friday night, and the big key for both the host Black Knights and visiting Vikings will likely come down to which team can best cash in its opportunities.

That is an area Central coach Todd Wofford would very much like his team to improve upon after letting too many of their chances to make big plays on offense and defense last week against Norcross slip away.

“We had some opportunities to make some plays on both sides of the ball (last week), but we just didn’t make them,” Wofford said. “We missed some wide open guys that could’ve gotten us some scores early on. Defensively, we had a couple of third and long situations where (Norcross) was able to keep their driving going. It’s a matter of getting consistent, and being more consistent on third down in particular.

“The focus in those situations has got to be on ourselves. We put a little too much on some guys who were not ready for that (responsibility), so we’re just trying to simplify things and see how that approach goes.”

The Black Knights will need to keep Lakeside running backs Blake Miccichi and Peter Mulbah, while trying to make space for their own offensive playmakers.

And they may have developed yet another one to go with quarterback Justin Fomby, running back Justin Wilkins and receiver T.J. Ellis with the emergence of sophomore Daejon Reynolds, who caught eight passes for over 100 yards last week.

Last meeting: Central won 38-36 last year

Location: Central Gwinnett High School
