Coach John McCartney’s take: “Myles Collins has been a part-time runner the past two years. He made a big decision to drop basketball following the 2017-18 season in order to concentrate on improving as a runner. Myles was able to drop his 800-meter time to 1:56 and his 1,600 to 4:22, not bad for a second-year runner who did not take a step on the track until basketball finished. Myles has taken over the role as team leader following the graduation of his three leaders from 2017. His leadership style revolves around leading by example. After placing third last year at the Gwinnett County Championship as a sophomore and 10th in the AAAAAAA State Cross Country Championships, he is looked up to greatly by his young and inexperienced teammates.”

He ran 48th overall at the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th, and was the fastest high school finisher with a time of 33:12. He has inspired his teammates to work harder. He’s looking to improve on his fourth-place finish at state last year and set some new PRs.
