Last week: Lost to North Gwinnett 37-21

Mountain View lost to seventh-ranked North Gwinnett last Friday, falling behind 17-0 quickly. It had a chance to close the deficit in the first half, but a missed field goal and an interception at the goal line stopped those drives. North went up 24-0 at halftime and 37-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

Nathan Payne connected with Mossiah Carter for a pair of touchdowns in the second half, and Jeremy Tuider continued his stellar defensive play with a forced fumble on a sack. Tuider had five sacks the previous week against Peachtree Ridge, a victory early in region play that will help in the playoff chase.

Discovery’s last outing also came against North, a 37-2 loss two weeks ago. The Titans were off last Friday, giving them time to correct what went wrong in their last loss. Four interceptions, one returned for a TD, contributed to the loss to North, as did allowing a punt block for a score and a kickoff return TD in special teams. Those kind of plays can’t happen against a Mountain View team that has made the state playoffs the previous three seasons.

The Discovery defense, which hung tough against North, continues to get stellar play from linebackers Gary Dever, MeKael Alcine and Anthony Rochester. Prior to the North game, the Titans stifled Meadowcreek and its powerful rushing attack in a 14-6 victory.
