FAIRBURN — Hebron Christian runners Brooke Browning and Ellie Brewer both posted times below Browning’s previous school record in Saturday’s Alexander/Asics Invitational.
Browning finished the varsity girls 5K race ninth out of 241 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 11.73 seconds, now a Hebron record. Brewer was 19th in 18:29.82.
Brookwood’s Allie Wardle (48th, 19:09.83), and the North Gwinnett duo of Marianna Gazzara (66th, 19:35.03) and Tori Meyer (68th, 19:35.57) were the other locals in the top 75.
In the 227-runner boys field, Archer’s Sebastian Rodriguez was the top Gwinnett finisher in 16th (15:35.73). Teammates Skylar Taylor (44th, 16:00.57) and Miles Ferguson (50th, 16:04.02) were in the top 50 and the Tigers were 18th among 29 teams.
Brookwood’s Will Bray was 20th (15:38.05) and Seth Wheeler was 72nd (16:20.27) as the Broncos were 19th. The Mill Creek boys took 13th behind Jacob Peters (28th, 15:46.84) and Ethan Nordman (40th, 15:56.42).
Norcross was the top Gwinnett boys team in fifth place, led by Miguel Schlicht (22nd, 15:40.12), Yonas Chimbanda (60th, 16:10.84) and Delfino Juarez (68th, 16:16.58).
Individually, Dacula’s Ben Butcher was 38th in 15:55.45.
In the Class 6A-7A boys race, Collins Hill’s Marc Petrucci (third, 16:33.55) and Dacula’s Hayden Squires (ninth, 16:45.71) were in the top 10. In 6A-7A girls, Norcross’ Claudia Gatti (fourth, 20:08.33) and Kyra Andrews (eighth, 20:31.18) led the way. Duluth’s Lyric Minter (15th, 21:05.77) and Collins Hill’s Sacha Brickey (16th, 21:11.45) were in the top 20.
Hebron girls third
MILLEDGEVILLE — Despite its top two runners competing in the Alexander/Asics Invitational, Hebron Christian’s girls team took third in the Braves Invitational at Council Farms on Saturday.
The Lions’ Georgia Piper was the individual runner-up in 20:54.65, and teammate Sydney Whalen was 17th in 23:17.41. Madison Alcon took 26th in 24:02.68.
Archer girls win
ATHENS — Archer’s girls team was first in the four-team Athens Academy US 3 meet on Saturday.
Archer girls won behind Paige Sandidge (second, 20:34.53), Ashley Annis (third, 21:11.51), Emily Cragin (fourth, 21:44.49) and Lahna Wempner (fifth, 21:51.91).
Archer’s boys were second in the five-team boys meet behind Evan Miner (fourth, 18:03.48).
