The Gwinnett Heat and Houston County Sharks have a good chance to renew their American Association of Adapted Sports Programs rivalry this weekend.

Gwinnett is the No. 1 seed in Saturday’s wheelchair football championships hosted at Duluth High School, and its opponent will be the winner of Saturday’s 1 p.m. semifinal between the Sharks and the Atlanta Wolfpack. The championship game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Sharks saw their 64-game winning streak in adapted sports competitions, which includes football, handball and basketball, end back in March with a 32-27 loss to the Heat — Gwinnett County Public Schools’ adapted sports team.

Leading the scoring for the Heat in that victory over Houston County was Sam Millikan with two touchdowns and Stephen Hobson with one touchdown. Kendrell King threw the three touchdown passes and added three field goals. The victory was secured when King was successful with a field goal in the last two seconds of the game.

The defensive pressure of Kathy Luna, Giselle Zavala, Stephen Hobson, Brandon Sudge and Robbie Berry also limited Houston County to 27 points.

Gwinnett and Houston County also battled in the past two wheelchair basketball state title games, both won by the Sharks. Houston County’s victory in this year’s basketball tournament was its 16th straight title in all AAASP sports.
