The Gwinnett Heat wheelchair handball team defeated the Atlanta Wolfpack 14-8 this past weekend in the season opener.

The Heat — Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Adapted Sports program — got seven goals from Meadowcreek’s Derek Clarous and five goals from Osborne Middle’s Seth Earley. Shiloh’s Giselle Zavala added two goals.

West Jackson’s Kathy Luna and Archer’s Sam Millikan led the defense, while Will Millikan of McConnell Middle stood out in his first game at goalkeeper.

The Heat’s next game is Saturday against the DeKalb Silver Streaks at Druid Hills Middle School.
