Selecting the Super Six — our preseason picks for the county's best in a particular sport — is never easy. The talent in this area is so rich that we're bound to leave off some deserving players.
It's going to be particularly tough this year in football because the Class of 2013 is the most loaded single class of football talent in Gwinnett history. Close to 20 rising senior football players already have offers or have made commitments to high-level BCS programs. That number will only rise between now and 2013 National Signing Day in February.
To get us started on paring down our Super Six Football list, here's a list of top contenders and Grayson's Robert Nkemdiche (the nation's top recruit and a Super Six lock).

Myles Campbell - is constantly one of the top athletes in the county and state in terms of his production and other intangibles. He's not on the list???? Jamal Cole, not on the list? Joe Horn Jr. not on the list?
These are a few athlete that are consistent year in year out. I could go on and on.....so how are these players selected? Stats or Hype.
Please Note: Not saying any of the athletes that are being consider are hype, because you have a list of GREAT athletes. Just want to get the criteria for selection.

campbr,
Probably should have included those three you listed as candidates. All are great high school football players.
As far as criteria, our football Super Six selections are: the most highly recruited guys and out of that list, the top football players. We generally have more good candidates than we do spots, but this year is particularly strong on talent.
Hope that answers your question.

Will,
What about PRODUCTION and consistency? So what you're saying is the guy's who show the best at camps and combines make it to super six. What about the guys who put in work consistently year in and year out in Gwinnett county? If freeze does not get hurt last season, Myles would have broken 2500+ all purpose yards.
Myles didn't get a high rating because of his height nothing more. He was unstoppable at NFTC camp and MVP camps, made the ALL-Nike Camp Team and still no love. But again he's just a work horse and will continue to be that way. Hate it for him that he is consistently over looked and he always has to prove himself. Now, his little brother (ATH) Tyler Campbell (Soph) 6 foot 170, will have a breakout season this year at QB, WR, FS and A-back.
Joe, did not participate in the combines and camps like some of the other guy's. No big deal because this is all hype anyway and has no real bearing of a kids abilities as I have learned. Again not saying anyone on the list is Hyped. Just an observation of the lack of research and scouting from the passive sites. All on possible potential.
Well, Joe, Myles, Jamal, Shon, Alvin, Myles Autry and others will do what they do every year PRODUCE! and I'm just glad to have had the opportunity watch most of these guys grow up into mature young men and performing at the highest possible stage.
GWINNETT COUNTRY FOOTBALL and Athlete's are the best in the state regardless of who's on the cover page.

It's not all about combines, it's a mixture of the testing, the recruiting and the results.
As an example, Brad Roby didn't do much as a Peachtree Ridge junior. But he had ridiculous workouts and top offers that made him Super Six quality, but because he didn't have the on-the-field results he didn't make it.
The guys who will make our Super Six this year are pretty stout.

Keep an eye out for a big feature on Myles in the coming weeks, though. We already have the photos and the interviews done.

Will, I must say although Myles didn't make the super six. GDP has SOLID super six selections. GREAT JOB! I give create where credit is due.

One additional note: Gwinnett county class of 2013 has a LOT of D1 athletes. Proving that Gwinnett County is a FOOTBALL Factory. From GFL to HS levels.....
