He won state titles his first two seasons at GAC, playing key minutes as a freshman and averaging 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds as a sophomore.
Coach Allen Whitehart’s take: “Off the basketball court, A.J. is laid-back and outgoing, just one of the guys. He has never met a stranger. On the court, A.J. is much more aggressive. He has a well-rounded skill set, he can score and affect the game from different angles. He is 6-8 and can create off of the dribble for himself or set teammates up like a guard. On the flip side, he can use his size and be a matchup problem in the post versus smaller defenders. I think his ability to pass the ball and create for his teammates are his most overlooked strengths as a basketball player. I'm excited to watch him continue to grow as a person and a player this season. I think his best basketball is in front of him.”

Coach Jesse McMillan’s take: “Brandon Goodwin is one of the most fierce competitors ever to play at Norcross High School. There is never any doubt that he will give 100 percent for every second of every practice or game. His intensity is contagious and he has embraced a defined leadership role on our team. We feel that he is not only our best offensive player, but also our most consistent defender. We are very proud of the fact that he’s getting it done in the classroom as well and currently has a 3.6 GPA. The biggest mistake anyone could ever make would be to underestimate him and I feel completely confident that he is going to have a tremendous senior season and an outstanding collegiate career.”

Coach Kim Rivers’ take: “Trayvon is what I consider a late bloomer. If he continues to work on and off the court, the sky’s the limit for Trayvon. He has a chance to be the next great center in basketball.”

Noteworthy: The only point guard in Archer’s short history, the four-year starter has been an important leader in the program and that won’t change this season. He is coming off a junior season when he averaged 11.7 points and 5 assists.
Coach Tim Watkins’ take: “Randall has been instrumental to the success of our program. A four-year starter, he is a hard worker and excellent leader. He plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor and makes everyone around him better. He and his teammates have brought Archer basketball a long way in a short time. Jacksonville State is getting a great point guard, but an even better young man.”

Coach Eddie Martin's take: “Delano has worked hard to improve on all areas of his game. He has always been able to score, but has improved his passing as well as becoming a good defender. I think he has a very bright future ahead of him, but he is quick to admit that he has some unfinished business at the high school level.”

Noteworthy: Though she plays alongside perhaps the nation’s top recruit, Cooper is a top-100 national talent herself. Able to score inside and out, she is a fierce rebounder who averaged 12 points and 8 boards last season.
Coach Angie Hembree’s take: "Shayla is a force on the boards and in the paint. She has worked very hard on her perimeter game and will be able to play any position on the floor for us this year. Noteworthy: Frerking’s team has won state every season of her high school career, and she’s contributed greatly to the last two since recovering from a knee injury. A standout softball player and a state champion in track and field, she is a threat to score on the interior and from outside.
Coach Jan Azar’s take: “Katie Frerking is a very rare student-athlete. She is the shortstop on our state runner-up softball team, starts for our state championship basketball team and is a state champion in the high jump, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She is rare in today’s society because she does not focus her energies on just one thing. There are very few high school athletes who could do what Katie does and still be able to play basketball in the SEC. While her many athletic awards are impressive, what impresses me most is that she also excels in the classroom and as a peer leader. She is the type of student-athlete we want our younger girls to emulate.”
