Outside of myself, the best current Gwinnett softball player is: North Gwinnett’s Kinsley Jennings

Best place for a softball tourney road trip: Boulder, Colo.

Noteworthy:

• Committed to Mississippi State

• Hit .374 with five home runs and 45 RBIs as a junior

• Hit .326 with three homers and 26 RBIs as a sophomore for a state runner-up team

Coach Roger Parham’s take: “Morgan is the type of player that every coach wants on their team. She is humble yet confident. She has tremendous natural talent but that is not to say that she hasn’t worked very hard. She is a very hard worker who leads by example. She always has a smile on her face that is infectious. She plays at a very high level of travel ball and brings that level of confidence to the high school level. She is not arrogant or cocky but confident in her ability as a player, as a leader and as a first-class teammate. Most importantly, she is a quality kid and makes everyone around her better.”

Coach Tony Wolfe’s take: “Bria is a dominant pitcher and a tremendous young lady. She has great intangibles: poise, confidence, character, determination, work ethic and she’s humble. Physically, Bria has a great velocity, excellent spin and super command of all her pitches which really sets her apart from other pitchers. Bria also has that rare ability to perform at her best in the biggest moments, like three consecutive shutouts in Columbus to win the championship in 2012. Bria is also an excellent student, a great teammate and a very fun loving young lady.”

On the bases, she stands out even more with her base stealing ability and her ability to take extra bases. Overall, she has great skill, great instincts and is very sound fundamentally. She’s a dominant leadoff hitter. Defensively, she has great range in center and a strong, accurate throwing arm. She is also very instinctive defensively in reading balls off the bat and positioning herself correctly throughout the game. A real game-changing type of player and a great teammate who loves the game and gets along well with all those around her.”

She makes a difference in every phase of the game and puts pressure on opponents defensively and offensively. She is a five-tool player who can play every position on the field, hit for power and average, and steal bases at will. She has also evolved in other ways as well. She seeks out younger players to help them learn the game and think more strategically.
