Archer has lost its last two games by a combined three points. Dacula is still searching for its first win of the year. Both teams were playoff participants last season, but a loss Friday will make a return trip difficult.
“It’s pretty pivotal for us and Archer,” Dacula coach Jared Zito said. “We can’t dwell on the past. We’ve got six ballgames in front of us and they are all region games. We’re trying to be positive the rest of the way.”
Dacula was a quarterfinal team a year ago, but has struggled this season. The good news is the Falcons are not out of the playoff hunt.
“I think they have a very good football team,” Archer coach Andy Dyer said. “They are dangerous and can score anytime.”
Brandon Goodson is a threat at quarterback, throwing for 516 yards and three TDs. Marcus Cox is the team’s leading rusher with 421 yards and three TDs.
The duo will try to get around a defense led by Florida commitment Antonio Riles. The senior lineman posted six total tackles and three QB hurries.
“Antonio had his best game of the year,” Dyer said. “He just did his job and made things difficult for them.”
Archer’s Ernest Alexander and Sean Fowler rushed for 100 yards or more in the first three games of the year. The duo was shut down by Parkview. Alexander was injured on his only carry and is probable for Friday. Fowler was held to negative yards rushing.
“If you don’t stop the running game, you don’t stand a chance,” Zito said.
Last meeting: Dacula won 38-15 last year
