VALDOSTA -- A packed-in Lowndes defense kept Collins Hill scoreless for most of Wednesday night, but Desiree Bowen broke through in the 73rd minute off a Paige Hoover assist for the game's first goal and the Eagles tacked on another late in a 2-0 victory in the Class AAAAA girls soccer second round.
Mariah Dickey scored off a Kelsey Lawrence assist for Collins Hill's second goal. The Eagles (12-8), who play at Lassiter in Saturday's quarterfinals, had a 17-1 edge in shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Halla Jibreen earned the shutout, but was rarely tested as Collins Hill dominated possession and kept the ball on the Lowndes' half of the field. Kaitlyn Del Salvio, Laura Gillespie, Amanda Bruemmer and Lindsey Lawrence led the Eagles' defense.
